Gil Semedo
Gil Semedo is known as the Cape Verdian
"King of Pop"-and no wonder: With Gil Semedo on stage, Cape Verde
feels very close by. Gil Semedo Moreira was born in 1974 on the Cape Verdian
island Santiago.
At age 6 he emigrated with his parents to the Netherlands.
At a very young age he began writing his own songs. Known for his innovative Cabo-Swing, a mix of various Cape Verdian styles such as Coladeira, Funana and Batuco, he has cultivated a star status in large parts of the Portuguese-speaking world. Gil Semedo has already made 10 CDs. His CD Nha Vitória, from 2006, marks his return to the international stage after recovery from a serious accident.
