Events
As organiser of events such as the Summer Carnival, the Dunya Festival and Parkpop, DUCOS concentrates fully on cultural events of both national and international stature. Annually, DUCOS's events reach a visiting public in excess of 1,5 million people.
Ortel Dunya Festival
Ortel Dunya is the world performing arts festival of
the Netherlands. Every year prominent artists-young talents
from every corner of the world, big names in world music, as
well as storytellers and poets-play and perform at the Ortel
Dunya Festival. The program consists of more than fifty
performances presented on six stages in the Euromast Park. In
2008 a total of more than 60 hours of world music was
programmed. Aside from various stages featuring continental
performances, Ortel Dunya hosts a Poetry Park and a children's
area.
Ortel Dunya means trying, tasting, experiencing and enjoying! All the cultures of the world are within hand's reach. For one day long, the Euromast Park is your new world, where you will encounter the most diverse musical styles, instruments, sounds and texts. But Ortel Dunya is more: here you will also literally taste and smell the world through the varied international cuisine offered throughout the Park.
Parkpop
Wanna visit one of the largest free popfestivals in Europe?
Come along and join in the fun at Parkpop! Whoever says pop
music, says The Hague. The Hague has for years been the
Netherlands' pop city number one. So every reason for this to
be the venue for one of our country's oldest and largest pop
festivals. Parkpop has a rich history, including several
‘greats' from the national and international pop world. Take
Robbie Williams, The Bangles, Beth Hart, Kim Wilde, Marillion,
Kelis or Mory Kante, all Parkpop veterans. Last year Parkpop
welcomed Kula Shaker, Sheryl Crow and Orishas. Parkpop has
grown from one stage and a few thousand visitors in to a mega
event with three stages, hundreds and thousands of visitors and
a variety of activities in the centre of The Hague.
Ortel Summercarnival
Globalisation has resulted in the Caribbean translation of this
originally Western cultural expression appearing in a new
guise. A noted example of this is Mardi Gras in New Orleans.
Europe has also been confronted with this new phenomenon. Best
examples of this are Notting Hill Carnival and Summer carnival.
An initially Antillean and Aruban occasion, Summer carnival has
grown over the years into an event with which many cultures can
identify. Nowadays Surinam, Brazil, Cape Verde and Bolivia are
among the visible influences. People have come together, giving
birth to a new national tradition. Summer carnival has
developed its own content and its own artistic profile. There
was a fusion of influences between diverse points of the
compass and an event was born with a character all its
own.
Christmas Rotterdam
The coziest time of year is just around the corner! Under the
name "Winter in Rotterdam" the city is organizing various
seasonal activities and DUCOS Productions will coordinate the
unveiling of the Christmas tree. But there will be much more to
experience in the darker months. This winter Rotterdam will be
the place to get into the holiday mood!
The lighting of the Christmas tree lights is an important
tradition in Rotterdam. When the Norwegian Christmas tree is
raised each year in front of the City Hall on the Coolsingel,
winter can really begin. The mayor invites everyone on this
December evening to join him on the steps of the City Hall and
light the tree together. And what is a Christmas party without
live music and a glass of something warm? Exactly, all the
ingredients are there for an intimate and musical evening. No
